TURTLE DOVE
Turtle dove, my sweet little turtle dove
when I saw you struttin, couldn't do nuttin
so I wrote a little song so we could get along,
Turtle dove, my sweet little turtle dove,
Weres my pen and paper, so when I see you later,
I gotta a little poem, so you can get to know him
Keeping birds just ain't my scene
but I can't settle for a little bit of bread in between,
take a look in the mirror, you ain't no pidgeon
a little bit of lovin, a splash, a smidgeon
Too good, for stale bread, leave the crumbs for the bums,
Turtle dove, my sweet little turtle dove
when I saw you struttin, couldn't do nuttin
so I wrote a little song so we could get along,
Turtle dove, my sweet little turtle dove,
Weres my pen and paper, so when I see you later,
I gotta a little poem, so you can get to know him
simple measures for simple needs,
Simple pleasures, little bit bit of bird seed,
other birds think I'm a statue
make a mess on my head when I'm lookin right at you,
Turtle dove, my sweet little turtle dove
when I saw you struttin, couldn't do nuttin
so I wrote a little song so we could get along,
Turtle dove, my sweet little turtle dove,
Weres my pen and paper, so when I see you later,
I gotta a little poem, so you can get to know him
little peck, what the heck, I love Turtle dove,

LEAVE ME TO THE WOLVES
I'd never held a hand so tightly, and the forest was howling, the ground was thick
and I never caught branches they whipped back
as I pulled her along she'd loosened her grip
and like running in honey we slowed to a walk,
and she turned to the forest and I wanted to talk,
and my voice was a lump, as silent as films, just fog on a window
and her ears were hollow, and eyes through the trees, went straight to my knees,
can you please leave me to the wolves,
the teeth are refreshing
the dangerous undressing
I'd never seen this look in her eyes before,
and the vines they grew up and around in between us,
and the boldest retreat was scaring me shit less
and the whispering woods, tried to talk to me gently
she lay on the bed of wet leaves and relief
and she could see straight up and all I could see the teeth,
and the circle grew tighter, and the paws they were silent,
and her fingers they trembled with anticipation
the reluctant voyeur I sat in the trees,
can you please leave me to the wolves,
the teeth are refreshing
the dangerous undressing
and I watched for an hour or two like a servant,
but I couldn't here screaming, only her breathing,
and all I was seeing, was animals feeding,
and tails were wagging, and tongues were lapping,
and bellies were filling but no one was killing,
just craving whatever it is that where craving,
and finally they parted, with group satisfaction,
and she sat in the clearing, licking her wounds,
just like nothing had happened, four her legs underneath her, ready to run,
for no-one could keep her, and finally I knew she was an animal too
I knew this forest and I knew these wolves and I'd read the book and I know how it ends
and I left the forest to do it again
the heaviest body
the breath of a stranger
the teeth are refreshing
the dangerous undressing

EVERYTHING AND NOTHING
They had everything and nothing,
and I want everything and nothing too,
All I want is all and nothing
and you can have all and nothing too
the tightest weave of clothe beneath
of sky of warm relief,
its true, its hard, to disregard and spread out on the sheets,
potatoes a roof and coffee and family,
I tried to give money, but they wouldn't take it from me,
no supermarket, no shops looks like they got a little, but they really got a lot,
I was an anomaly in the economy,
cogs had no-one better to chew
just like the folk we call the dregs
its almost me, its almost you
I know its great, to self medicate after work has stopped,
but people that we vote for, who tell us all to work more
know we could be better off

the sweet dessert, for the deepest sleep,
its ages old, this recipe,
the covers worn, the pages spread,
I wanna bake the cake, thats in my head
Thats why....
I'm going next door, for some sugar,
Next door for sugarland
I'm going next door, for some sugar,
Next door for sugarland
Now I ain't smoken, I don't chug a lug
to settle this pettle that don't leave much,
and loves a fruit, thats going bad,
now that you seen me look so sad,
so when I stumbled, in modern times
you chewed me up and I fell behind,
so I shall receive the good lords blessin'
when she lead me, into regression,
CHORUS
SOLO
and the hearts a myth, a poets dud,
stuck in cage just pumping blood
and the mind creates both love and lust
d.d.d.ddanger red turn us to dust
when I don't have to play detective
open wide and so receptive
so a song to drench, a poets rage
to keep the neighbours, on the page

you cut the top off that hill where I used to run,
and filled in the gully where black snakes used to sun,
pulled down that old shed that looked like the land,
and the old milkers cottage and a place for your helipad,
and I heard that your moneys a hole in the ground,
We all know your here flying your choppers around
and I saw you comin' years and miles away
wish I'd bought that old field where I used to play
when you unpack bags when you arrive, you've brought everything you where leaving behind
and to me the stock markets and shares are a myth, but I've always known what country is,
and the hippies and farmers reached co-habitation
but then you yuppies came and screwed with the equation
and it used to be dark, and seen from afar
but the lights on driveway are killing the stars
and where there was silence so soft serene
you seem to find peace on your mowing machine
on your hobby farm to impress your wife
and you've landscaped the dam to an inch of its life,
When you unpack your bags I'm sure you will find, you brought everything you where leaving behind,
and I never known how to spin gold out of piss, I've always known what country is,
oh and I figured it out it took me twenty years,
you wanna get rich, just lend me your ears,
and wallets will open and purses will purge,
as I tell you the secret haven't you heard,
just find different ways to sell the same shit,
and make it all shiny and millions will buy it
there's a place by the door where leaving your scruples
is common like screwing the land and the people
and if you still don't quite get it, or don't have the time
any dip-shit can go work in a mine,
and when you realize, the Australian dream
you'll be standing on the bones of land thats been screaming, screaming
just leave me alone, and fuck off back home,or back to the caves and your trees and your stones
you've gotten so smart you can only get dumb so fuck your ambition and your opposable thumbs,
look, all are welcome here, I'm not such a bad bloke
but you've laid too much concrete and your helicopters a joke
and when you look around, I'm sure you will find, you've brought everything you were supposed to leave behind and I've never known which arses to kiss, but I've always known what country is..
